PRESS RELEASE:  Grand Opening of Renovated Beach Courts at Emerald Lake

Renovation of Six Beach Courts at Emerald Lake Completed
​thanks in part to a $70,500 OTF Grant

July 29th, 2020... Cambridge, ON -  On Wednesday, Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. (the Club) along with Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark celebrated, at an invite only event due to the current restrictions related to COVID-19, the completion of six volleyball courts.

The Club received a $70,500 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Capital grant to help with the refurbishment of six of the 12 beach volleyball courts at the Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark in Puslinch, ON.

Quick facts:
  • Built in the 1970’s, the volleyball courts had no drainage and poor sand quality.
  • The renovated volleyball courts will improve the quality, safety and consistency of the playing surface for youth participants.
  • The Club has used the courts for eight years to host beach volleyball training and tournaments for youth ages 8-18.
  • The new courts will feature Olympic grade volleyball sand.
  • In 2019 the Club had over 400 participant registered to take part in its outdoor beach volleyball programs.

Newly Renovated Beach Volleyball Courts at Emerald Lake

WHAT -    On Wednesday, July 29th at 6:45 p.m. the Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club (the Club) with the collaboration of the Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark will be holding an invite-only celebratory event to mark the completion of the renovation of six beach volleyball courts.

​  The Club has received an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Capital grant to help pay for the costs to refurbish six of the 12 beach volleyball courts at the Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark.

SCORPIONS  RELEASE UPDATED STAGE 3 Protocols and Emergency Plan​ for Outdoor Train/Play

July 26th, 2020, The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club announced they have released their updated Stage 3 Protocols and Emergency Plan for Outdoor Train/Play for youth beach volleyball.

The club continues to improve their protocols as the Ontario government moves forward in their dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club currently has a developmental beach program and a competitive duos program. The 3 components of the Scorpions Stage 3 plan are:

Meet our Scorpions Jr Beach Duos Coaches - Kate, Brooklyn & Taylor

Scorpions Jr. Beach Duos Coaches Kate Langan, Brooklyn Gallant and Taylor Valnion

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is very proud to introduce their competitive beach junior duos coaches.

Kate Langan is the coordinator for the Junior duos. She has 10 years of beach playing experience in Canada and the USA. She has been teaching beach volleyball in the Club for 7 years. She has been coaching and assisting at the Madawaska Volleyball & All Sports Camp for over 4yrs. She also coaches indoor competitive teams.

Brooklyn Gallant is an assistant coach and brings 10 years of beach playing experience in Canada and the USA. She is also a former U. of Waterloo indoor varsity player.

Taylor Valnion has 10 years of experience playing competitive beach duos, club volleyball, coordinating beach tournaments and coaching development programs and competitive teams.

Paul Langan, Club President states, "These women have been with the club since we started in 2010. They have seen the tremendous growth of beach volleyball from 2010 til now and have been a part of it. They continue to play an important role in in coaching our junior competitive duos program.  Kate and Taylor are also responsible for ensuring our Scorpions Open Public Youth Beach Volleyball tournaments are some of the best run tournaments in Canada."

The Scorpions competitive beach program in 2020 has been scaled down and protocols developed (Stage 2 and 3) to ensure the safety of our athletes and coaches. The program is full.

In complying with our provincial government regulations the club is not currently hosting tournaments.

Scorpions Summer Beach Volleyball Development Program Starts July 20th, 2020

Scorpions Summer Beach Program at Shade's Mills
The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club summer beach volleyball developmental program for youth will start Monday July 20th, 2020 at Shade's Mills Conservation Area.

The program will follow and exceed all provincial protocols for Stage 3 community sports training. All parents/players will be required to comply with the Scorpions Club Stage 3 Protocols. Parents who have registered their child to play in the program will receive an email with protocols and start up information.

The programs runs Monday to Thursday nights for youth ages 8-18yrs old. Scorpions Coach Jessna Marmo will be the head coach for the program,

Paul Langan, club founder states, " We are grateful to be able to hold our outdoor summer beach program. We have set up protocols to ensure a fun safe learning environment for the athletes. We will be contacting everyone in the next few days with all the start up information."
