11/16/2015 0 Comments SCORPIONS BANZ IS QUEEN OF THE BEACH!The first OVA Queen of the Beach event was hosted October 31 at the Full Time Training Center at Volleyball Canada’s Beach High Performance Facility. A Queen of the Beach tournament is a 2 vs 2 format where each athlete competes as an individual. Players are paired with different partners for each game and the athlete with the best set differential is crowned the winner. Jenna managed to only drop 1 set during the tournament to win the crown. Jenna played four years for the Scorpions Volleyball Club before deciding to train for beach full time this year. Jenna is coached by former OVA Beach Tour Player of the Year Paul Podstawka. Jamie Broder was at the event and awarded the winner with an authentic autographed FIVB Canada top. Jamie and her partner Kristina Valjas were the first Canadian women’s team to medal on the FIVB World Tour when they won gold at the Fuzhou Open in 2015. They are currently fighting for a spot for the 2016 Olympics. Any athletes who are interested in playing beach volleyball this winter have several options. The OVA Winter Beach Tour starts November 21st and continues until March. Athletes may join the open training groups at the Full Time Training Centre starting November 20th. The OVA will also be hosting more Queen and King of the Beach tournaments this winter. For more information please contact Beach Development Coach Angie Shen [email protected]
