Cambridge, ON – On Thursday, JUly 25th, local MPP Jess Dixon met with the team at Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club as they unveiled three newly renovated beach volleyball courts which were made possible thanks to a $43,500 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
“I'm excited to see the completion of these renovated beach volleyball courts. This project provides a great space for our youth to connect and develop their volleyball skills,” said Jess Dixon, MPP for Kitchener South–Hespeler. “Paul Langan and the Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club have done an outstanding job in bringing this vision to life.” First awarded in September 2023, the help fund the renovation and repair of three previously non-functional beach volleyball courts and bring them up to Volleyball Canada standards. These improvements to the courts have built more capacity for local community youth to participate in the sport of Volleyball. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. is one of the largest and fastest growing youth beach volleyball clubs in Canada. Over 700 youth registered in their outdoor beach volleyball programs in 2024. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has had a working relationship with Emerald Lake Waterpark to use their sand courts for the last thirteen years. The courts were in need of significant renovation to bring them up to standard. "Our youth beach program was at capacity. In order to host youth beach tournaments and to allow more youth to play beach volleyball we wanted to invest in the community,” said Paul Langan, Beach Program Coordinator for Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club. “We have had a very positive relationship with Emerald Lake in the past. With this new investment and lease we look forward to being able to host more tournaments and programs for youth in the area.” For more information on Scorpions Beach Volleyball Programs go to http://scorpionsbeach.ca or call Paul Langan, Scorpions Beach Program Coordinator, 226-505-7605. “Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure they remain at the heart of the community for decades to come." Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships.
